Pizza for dinner is always a crowd pleaser with my family. But how many times can you eat the same old pizza varieties? So for dinner tonight, we put a Mexican spin on our pizza. It was delicious! Follow along as we make sourdough Mexican pizza for dinner.
We use the same sourdough pizza crust for all of our pizzas and flarbreads. Some of our favorite pizza varieties are bbq chicken, chili, and a Mexican breakfast pizza.

Sourdough Mexican Pizza Ingredients:
- 1 to 2 lbs of ground meat. We made 4 pizzas with 2 lbs of meat. This was 8 servings. Use 1 lb of meat if making 2 pizzas for 4 servings.
- 4 to 8 cups of room temperature, sourdough starter. 2 cups of sourdough starter for each pizza crust.
- 1 16-ounce can of refried beans.
- 1 cup of enchilada sauce.
- 1 can of black olives.
- 4 cups of shredded cheese. I used a variety of cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
- 2 tsp of salt
- 2 tsp of cumin
- 1.5 tsp of dried onion
- 1 tsp of dried garlic
- 1 tsp of smoked paprika
- Pepper to taste
- Guacamole
- Sourcream
- Chopped cabbage
- Chopped tomatoes
- Fresh cilantro
- Lime slices

Sourdough Mexican Pizza Instructions:
Prepare your pizza pans. I use cast iron pans. Make sure they are well oiled and place them in the oven while the oven is preheating to 400F.
I have a variety of cast iron pans and pull them all out when making pizza. Here are the cast iron pans that I use.
If you don’t have cast iron pans, you can use cookie sheets. Just be sure to oil and heat them before adding the sourdough starter for the crust. By heating the pan before adding the starter, it will prevent the starter from sticking to the pan.
While the pans are preheating, brown, and season your ground meat. I used 1 lb of ground beef and 1 lb of ground pork. Season with salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, onion , and garlic.
Heat the refried beans in a small sauce pan.
Making the Crust
Once the pans are hot and the oven is preheated, remove the hot pans and evenly spread 2 cups of sourdough per pan. Creating a thin sourdough crust. The crust will begin to cook immediately. Once the starter is spread evenly in the pan, place in the oven for approximately 10 minutes or until the crust edges are golden brown.

After the crust of cooked, remove from the oven and add a thin layer of beans, a drizzle of enchilada sauce, a layer of ground meat, topp with a layer of cheese, and a handful of sliced black olives.

Place the pizzas in the pans back in the oven for about another 7 to 10 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and hot.
Remove from the oven and topp with chopped cabbage, chopped tomatoes, guacamole, sourcream, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime.
Slice up and serve! I hope you enjoy your sourdough Mexican pizza as much as we did!
