Finding Peaceful Moments in a Busy Day

This time of year with the holidays approaching days are filled with the busyness of preparing holiday menus, last-minute house projects before company comes, on top of the usual busy homeschool mom day. It can be hard to find peaceful moments.  Moments of respite and beauty amidst the noise of the day. Follow along with me as I focus on the peaceful moments in a busy day.

Morning Moments

The sunrise from our backyard

One of my favorite peaceful moments of the day is heading outside as the sunrises to take care of the animals. The peaceful quiet of the morning with the birds chirping.  The repetitive movement of mucking out the rabbit pen and feeding the animals. Our little sweet rabbits are so quiet and peaceful to watch. They are a wonderful, calming way to start the day.

As the sun continues to rise,  I water the garden. Our winter Florida garden has carrots, cabbage, onions, and tomatoes growing right now. I recently bought myself a new watering can (it’s the little things), and I fill it up from the rain barrel to water the garden.  The process of tending to something living and growing outside in God’s creation brings me a great moment of peace as I start my day.

Musical Moments

We start our school day with a story (we just finished Old Yeller), news, prayers, and plegde. But my favorite part of our morning school time is singing our monthly hymn. There is usually some argument that has ensued during the short hour that everyone has been awake, and when it’s time to sing our hymn, all my frustrations disappear.  God is the greatest giver of peace.

Here is a post of our typical school day and where we find our news and monthly hymns.

My oldest son is preparing for his Christmas piano recital. When he takes time to practice the piano, it fills my heart with joy. I’m usually standing in the kitchen, washing dishes or preparing food while he’s playing.  Listening to his music makes those mundane tasks so much more beautiful.

Soaking up the Sunshine

As the afternoon rolls around, I usually need a little pick me up. I try to avoid having caffine in the afternoon. So I will venture outside, weather permiting,  and sit in the hammock for five or ten  minutes.  The afternoon sun shines perfectly on the hammock. Laying in the sun, soaking in all the vitamins, gives me the perfect happy energy boost. I’m so thankful for the Florida sunshine. I don’t think I could live somewhere where the sun doesn’t shine all day long.

Thanks for joining me on my peaceful moments of the day. I would love to hear what sort of things you do to find peace throughout the day. I hope your busy day is filled with beautiful, peaceful moments that you can stop and enjoy. For more homemade family inspiration and recipes follow along  @homesteadonlakeside.

A very relaxing start to the day, I like getting outside too, with the sunrise. And you have tomatoes growing right now, wow! We only have kale and cabbage up here!

Crazy how different garden zones can be. We have gardening almost all year long in Florida. January is the coldest month with 1 or 2 days of frost. Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful weekend full of lots of sunshine and gardening!

Wow, you got it going in! We home schooled all three of our kids…and I grew up in FL so I can appreciate the nature vibe. I loved FL but I also like NC, where we were transferred to 30 yrs ago. Great post 😎
