Sourdough Waffles

We often eat pancakes because it takes one extra step to take out the waffle maker. But every time I make waffles, I wonder to myself why I don’t do it more often. These sourdough waffles are so delicious with the perfect crispness. Follow along as I make sourdough waffles.

If you’re like us and love pancakes just as much, check out my sourdough pancake recipe here.

This is a repost recipe from 2021 that needed a new recipe card and some updating. We continue to enjoy these delicious crispy and sweet sourdough waffles often.

Sourdough Waffle Ingredients:

2 cups of sourdough starter

1/4 cup of melted butter or coconut oil

1/3 cup of sugar

2 eggs

1 tsp of vanilla

1/2 tsp of cinnamon

1 tsp of salt

2 tsp baking powder

Sourdough Waffles Ingredients:

Start by preheating waffle iron and oven to 250F. Prepare waffle iron by lightly oiling the waffle iron grates. I just oil it once before the start of making waffles, not between each batch of waffles.

Mix together all ingredients until well combined. Use 1/4 cup measuring cup to measure the waffle mix and pour into each waffle square. This helps ensure the waffle mix doesn’t spill over the edges of the waffle maker.

The waffle mix will mix together best if the sourdough starter is active and at room temperature. If you’re interested in making a sourdough starter here is my post with all of the instructions to make your own.

When the waffles are done cooking and golden brown, usually when the steam has stopped escaping from the waffle iron. Remove the waffles from the iron and place on a baking sheet.

Keep the waffles on the baking sheet in the warm oven until ready to serve all of the waffles.

Serve with warm syrup or berry compote. Enjoy your sourdough waffles!

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoy these sourdough waffles as much as we do! For more homemade family inspiration and recipes follow along @homesteadonlakeside

Thanks, Rachel! I’ll confess the same…pancakes are so much easier and try as I might, I never feel like I get the waffle iron CLEAN CLEAN – know what I mean? 😜

Same!! But my boys always find waffles an extra special breakfast treat! So, I clean up the extra mess of the waffle maker once and a while. 😋💕
