Our house and little spot of earth is far from perfect, but I love where we live. Part of that love for our house is cultivating a place that we want to come home to. I truly believe that even the most unattractive of places can be made beautiful with the right love and attention. Where you live should be a place of joy, respite, and inspiration.
When we moved into our home 6 years ago, it was a mess! Cat pee everywhere. Carpets in the bathroom and the unkept yard was full of ticks.
But we saw beauty. We saw a place for our children to explore and grow. A safe place to relax and learn. We saw potential.
Take your time
Making a house a home takes time. It doesn’t happen in the six months you give yourself to do renovations. It happens between birthday celebrations, meals made in the kitchen, and pillow forts built in the living room.
I have tried to bring things into our home that have meaning, cultivating the decor from thrift shops and family members. Fast fashion and decor are usually less expensive, but after buying the many things that are cheap and don’t last, I’ve decided to take my time and slowly collect pieces that have memories, touch my heart, and are made by quality craftsmen.
Beyond the walls
A home isn’t just inside the four walls of a house it also is in the beautiful land around it. I’m thankful that we have a forest behind us filled with wildlife and majestic trees.
We have learned after many failed attempts how to cultivate and care for this forest land around our house. The land s very shaded, and the wildlife eat everything. Instead of trying to plant vegetation that is meant for a sunny or less humid climate, I have learned to work with the land. Planting native foliage. In place of raspberry bushes, I have a mulberry tree. Failing lavender, has been replaced with fragrant rosemary.
Tour our home
I’ll take you around our home to show you some of my favorite parts. The parts that bring me a smile when I’m feeling overwhelmed by the tasks of the day.

I hope you enjoyed the little home tour of all of my favorite spots. Thanks for stopping by! I hope you love where you live or are on a journey to make your space just right for you.
