We made it! To the last day of the homestead spring cleaning 5-day challenge. Today, we took on the bathrooms, oiled the wooden furniture, and dusted.

It always boggles my mind with how quickly bathrooms get dirty. I guess it’s mostly because we have three large boys. But wiping the bathroom down is an everyday task. Today, I took it a step further and cleaned behind the toilets, and removed the hard water from the sink and faucet. Then, I used a UV light wand for extra germ fighting help and ran the light over all the germy parts of the bathroom.

We recently renovated the bathroom that my boys use. It has held up great, and I have been so happy with the design. We covered the walls and ceiling with beadboard and used some beautiful Edwardian beveled edge metro tiles in the shower. Here is a post about our renovation.
Oiling and conditioning the wood was next on our checklist. My parents gifted us their old 1890s Amish oak doning table. It’s one of my favorite pieces of furniture in the house, so I try to care for it well by oiling it often.
When we moved into our house 5 years ago, the former residents left behind a beautiful 1910s baby grand piano. I also make sure to tend to the piano when oiling the wooden furniture around the house.
If we take care of the special, heirloom quality items in our homes, they will last for decades to come.
