Homestead Spring Cleaning

Welcome, March. I’m so glad you’re here! Spring is coming this month, and it’s the perfect time to dust off the winter cobwebs and make things fresh.  I plan to do 5 days of cleaning to kick off the season.  Join me for the homestead spring cleaning.

Keeper of the garden

I’ll be starting the spring cleaning on Monday of next week and posting each day as I clean my way through the checklist. So let’s clean together and refresh our spaces to enjoy the new season.

I’ve created a checklist with three items each day to clean not only the inside but the outdoor spaces as well. Before we begin, let’s gather the materials needed for the tasks on the list.

Homestead Spring Cleaning Materials:

Day 1:

gardening gloves

seed packets

organic soil

Day 2:

broom with a long handle

cleaning spray

disposable rags

Day 3

cleaning spray

micro fiber rags or paper towels

step stool

wool stick duster

Day 4

thin handheld broom

line and clothespins for hanging laundry

essential oils

cleaning spray and rag

magic eraser

Day 5

long rubber gloves

UV light

baking soda

cleaning spray and rags

step stool

coconut oil

Here is the recipe for the multipurpose cleaning spray that I use for everything! I store it in a brown glass bottle with a silicone bottom.

Multipurpose cleaning spray recipe:

Glass amber spray bottle

Filtered water

5% to 7% vinegar

Tea tree essential oil

Lemon essential oil

Thyme essential oil

Mix 1 part vinegar with 2 parts water. If using a 16-ounce bottle, add 20 drops of tea tree, 20 drops of lemon, and 10 drops of thyme essential oil.

Don’t forget to get the kids involved! There are so many items on the list they can do. Cleaning windows, sweeping baseboards, and planting seeds. When everyone works together to make the home a pleasant space, it is rewarding for all. I always tell my boys, “Many hands make light work,”
